The purpose of environmental monitoring is to verify any impacts on the marine environment resulting from the sediment delivery operations coming from the dredging works of the “Marina Dorica” tourist port (Ancona). For the immersion of sediments in the sea area, the CNR IRBIM has drawn up and executed an accurate post-operam monitoring plan which includes:
– geomorphological surveys of the seabed using MultiBeam Echosounder, Side Scan Sonar and Sub Bottom Profiler
– physical, chemical and ecotoxicological analyzes of sediments
– bioaccumulation and biomarkers in sentinel organisms
– analysis of the benthic community.
This monitoring is part of the perspective of eco-sustainable management of the areas where sediment is collected from port excavation operations.
