The CNR IRBIM is involved in carrying out specific technical-scientific activities useful for achieving the project objectives, set out in OR 3, valorisation of waste as part of the INNOVITTIC Project. These activities, carried out at the COSVAP and IRBIM CNR headquarters (Mazara del Vallo headquarters), alongside the researchers involved in carrying out the research project, are aimed at:
a) quantitative evaluation of the main sources of production of by-products of the Sicilian fish supply chain;
b) evaluation of the bycatch of the Sicilian navies, through the analysis of the data available in the literature;
c) collection and transport of samples, at the Institute of Marine Biology in Trapani, of samples of the main by-product references, in agreement with UNIME and CUPT.

The Life DELFI project was born out of growing concern within the international scientific community about the interactions of cetaceans with professional fishing activities. Of particular concern is the frequent finding of signs of interaction with fishing gear on dolphin carcasses found on the beach or at sea. Therefore, DELFI takes care to limit the interaction between dolphins and fishermen as much as possible.
