CASAL application for the assessment of Nephrops norvegicus in the Pomo Pits area

Matteo Chiarini

In line with the training held at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric research of Auckland, New Zealand, several aspects will be presented on how a “Preliminary Bayesian length-based model” was developed using advanced software (CASAL). This “model builder” is still widely used by New Zealand researchers to assess the status of many marine resources. Topics will range from a brief history on software development, to pre-analysis processes of the input data, to learning what choices were made within the model settings in response to the particular biological and behavioral characteristics of the Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus) populations inhabiting the Meso-Adriatic depression (Pomo/Jabuka trench).
