An ecosystem approach for conservation and sustainable fisheries

In this seminar I will briefly present the steps that led me to CNR IRBIM, starting from training and ending with future plans. My scientific activity, while diversifying into several lines, focuses on renewable biological resources by going through the study of the ecology and biology of the fishery resources, more specifically, through research that contributes to the sustainable use of coastal natural resources and the conservation of biodiversity. To achieve these goals, in addition to the most common qualitative and quantitative fish stock assessment models, I have remarked on the considerable applications offered by Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.), systems that show considerable potential both for deepening the spatio-temporal distributions of biological resources and oceanographic parameters and for preparing management measures.
