Using metabarcoding of shrimp (Crangonidae) gut contents as a natural tool for biodiversity evaluation: a network of natural samplers
Through the analysis of the DNA of the intestinal contents, it is possible to obtain various DNA of organisms useful for characterizing biodiversity. Lorenzo is developing an innovative method to study biodiversity using the intestinal contents of shrimp as real “natural samplers”. In addition to the intestinal contents, water and sediment samples from the same area are also analyzed to assess how accurately the organism under study reflects local biodiversity. Using the same organism in different areas allows for comparable data for a standardised biodiversity assessment.
