Doctor Greta Lucia Cerrone, graduated in Biological Sciences in 2019 and in Marine Biology in 2022 at the Polytechnic University of Marche. The master’s thesis project concerned the study of the characterization of the reproduction of Sardina pilchardus, through monthly sampling for a total of 12 months, in correlation with age and fishing catch. The latter activities were carried out by extracting and reading the otoliths and distributing logbooks to the blue fish fishermen of the Ancona Navy for data analysis. In 2016 she carried out an internship at the Marine Biology and Ecology laboratory of prof. Roberto Danovaro, focusing on the study of meiofauna, organic matter and participating in a project on the study of different microplastics in the marine environment. In 2021 she completed her master’s internship at the Tartamate-Aps Marine Turtle Recovery Center where she was able to carry out monitoring activities on Caretta caretta nests, recovery of specimens victims of bycatch, and finally scientific dissemination. In 2023 she obtained the title of the II level Master in Sustainable Aquaculture, at UNIVPM, during which the internship took place at the Mancino Luigi fish farming plant, where she was able to carry out tank maintenance activities, manipulation of different species fish for reproductive and non-reproductive purposes, maintenance of the hatchery. Finally, in October 2022, for a period of one month, she held the role of Occasional Collaborator for CONISMA at UNIVPM for a study on the detection of microplastics in biological or water samples. She is currently a scholarship holder at the CNR IRBIM of Ancona, under the responsibility of Dr. Luca Bolognini, with a study on the sustainability of fishing activities in the Adriatic Sea.

The research activities of the Institute are carried out in the context of research, development and innovation projects, both national and international, based on regional funding programs (POR FEAMPA - Regional Operational Program of the European Maritime Affairs Fisheries Fund and Aquaculture and POR FESR - Regional Operational Program of the European Regional Development Fund) or ministerial (PRIN - Projects of relevant national interest, PNRA - National Research Program in Antarctica, PO FEAMPA - National Operational Program European Maritime Affairs Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund) , programs for European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg), direct funding programs of the European Commission (Horizon2020 and Horizon Europe, Life, JPI - Joint Programming Initiatives, ERA-NET Cofund) and thematic collaboration initiatives managed by international organizations such as, for example , the FAO - GFCM (General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean). The Institute also develops funded projects in the context of collaborations with private companies in the sectors of the blue economy as well as technology transfer and research results. Research projects, mainly of a collaborative nature, are developed through a wide network of partners that include major Italian and foreign research institutions and universities.
