Associate with Senior Collaboration Assignment

Otello Giovanardi, former executive technologist at the Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) of Chioggia, branch of which he founded in 1991, is a fishery and aquaculture biologist, specialized in 1980 in “Biology and Techniques of Mariculture” at the Tokyo University of Fisheries (now Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology). For over 40 years he has dealt with impact analysis and management of fisheries on national marine ecosystems, especially in transitional waters (Laguna di Venezia) and in the Adriatic Sea. With regards to aquaculture, he specialized in the production of seeds of commercial marine species, both in hatcheries and nurseries, for breeding and restocking purposes. He also assisted aquaculture operators in improving cultivation techniques and in production diversification, particularly of fish and bivalve molluscs. He coordinated numerous national and international research programs and has published about 150 scientific papers in specialized journals and as many reports of technical-scientific nature. He assisted the Directorate General of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies from mid-1980s to mid-2000s, also following the appointments, within the several three-year plans that followed, as member of the “Research Committee” and of the “Advisory Committee” (and related subcommittees). Linked to these affiliations, intense interactions with various Directorates General of the sector at the EU level followed, with the governmental reference institutes of EU Member States (associated within EFARO, European Fishery and Aquaculture Research Organizations), with regional administrations, with FAO fisheries bodies and with national and regional fishermen’s and fish farmers associations.
