Silvia Bianchelli
Associate with Collaboration Assignment

Silvia works in the fields of marine biology and ecology. Her research focuses on marine biodiversity, the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, the impact of human activities on marine ecosystems, and the conservation and ecological restoration of coastal habitats. She served as Local Unit Coordinator in the national FIRB2012 HI-BEF project, Work Package leader in EU HORIZON projects (DEVOTES, MERCES), and scientific coordinator of the AFRIMED project funded by the EU EASME-EMFF. She is currently the scientific coordinator of the EU Biodiversa+ FORESCUE project. Silvia has participated in several national and international research projects She is currently involved in the LifeDREAM project and the National Biodiversity Future Center, where she co-coordinates Activity 2-Spoke 2 on marine ecosystem restoration. She is a member of the BiodivRestore Knowledge Hub within the European Biodiversa+ initiative, supporting the implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation. Silvia has organized and chaired three symposia dedicated to marine ecosystem restoration at global and European conferences of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER and SERE). She is Vice President of the Italian Association of Oceanology and Limnology (AIOL) and a member of the Italian Society of Ecology (SItE). She also serves as Associate Editor for the journal Conservation and Restoration Ecology within Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Marche – Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, and a researcher at the National Biodiversity Future Center.
