Researcher at the CNR IRBIM of Ancona for the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC). Master degree in Marine Biology between the University of Catania and the Universidad de Ciencias del Mar (Cadiz, Spain); PhD in Microbial Ecology, at the KNAW-NIOO Center Limnology (Utrecht, Netherlands); Master in Sciences and Technologies for the recovery of Contaminated Sites (University of Parma). She worked in research at the University of Catania, the CNR-IAMC of Messina (now IRBIM) and the CNR ISE of Verbania (now IRSA). Subsequently for 10 years she dealt with scientific dissemination at an international level, consultancy at public institutions (ISPRA and the Abruzzo Region) and she founded a non-profit organization for scientific dissemination and a start-up company for the microbiological control of the water quality. Her diversified professional experience in the public and private sectors and her notable technical-scientific skills in the field of microbial ecology and both freshwater and marine aquatic microbiology allowed her to return to research at the CNR IRBIM in Ancona in 2023. She investigates the diversity of prokaryotes in marine ecosystems with particular interest in contaminating microorganisms of anthropogenic origin and the genotypic characterization and phenotypic expression of antibiotic resistance genes in aquatic microorganisms.

The research activities of the Institute are carried out in the context of research, development and innovation projects, both national and international, based on regional funding programs (POR FEAMPA - Regional Operational Program of the European Maritime Affairs Fisheries Fund and Aquaculture and POR FESR - Regional Operational Program of the European Regional Development Fund) or ministerial (PRIN - Projects of relevant national interest, PNRA - National Research Program in Antarctica, PO FEAMPA - National Operational Program European Maritime Affairs Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund) , programs for European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg), direct funding programs of the European Commission (Horizon2020 and Horizon Europe, Life, JPI - Joint Programming Initiatives, ERA-NET Cofund) and thematic collaboration initiatives managed by international organizations such as, for example , the FAO - GFCM (General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean). The Institute also develops funded projects in the context of collaborations with private companies in the sectors of the blue economy as well as technology transfer and research results. Research projects, mainly of a collaborative nature, are developed through a wide network of partners that include major Italian and foreign research institutions and universities.
