Natural Reefs (Natural Reefs, NR) and Artificial Reefs (AR) represent important locations for human activities related to the Blue Economy, such as recreational fishery, nautical tourism, diving, aquaculture, and small scale fishery using fixed gears. ADRIREEF has the ambition to test and apply innovative actions to assess the suitability of NR and AR for the development of sustainable activities and in line with the Blue Economy. Since the success of the activities is highly dependent on the structural and ecological performance of the barriers, the project will also include the design and testing of low-impact technologies for underwater monitoring. The expected results will be aimed at knowledge transfer from the research world to the business world. Joint guidelines for stakeholders will be established, including a Code of Conduct, as well as a White Paper on the use of Adriatic reefs, including a specific plan for future projects.
